My family and I were looking forward to spending a few
days at the home of a friend in Agadir (Morocco). He had delivered
a key to us a few days earlier, saying, "Our winter home in Agadir is
unoccupied. You and your family may go out there and take a little vacation as
my guests."
We found the house and , with keen
anticipation, went to the door and put the key into the lock. It would not
fit. We tried the back door. No success. Our friend had given us the wrong
key, and all of his good intentions did not get us into the house. We
spent the night in a hotel.
The right key is even more
important in the spiritual realm. If you hope to get into Heaven, you
ought to be very sure that your key will unlock the door to eternal
life. Our friend's mistake cost us only a little
disappointment and the price of accommodations for one night. But what
will it cost the person who depends on the wrong key to get him into
Heaven? The cost is too great to be calculated. "For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole
world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his
soul?" (Mark 8:36, 37).
Many people are depending
upon the wrong key to get them into Heaven. The key of good works and
moral deeds will not unlock the door; "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast
." (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Religion without Christ is no
good. In fact, the only key that will unlock the door to Heaven is the key
of personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The way of
salvation is made so clear in the Word of God that no one need be deceived
or disappointed. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the
way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
" Jesus Christ is the key to the door of Heaven, He
said, "I am the door. I anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.
" (John 10:9).
Have you put your
trust and faith in Jesus Christ? If so, you possess the right key. If not,
I hope you will repent of your sins and trust Him today. He invites you to
believe on Him, and He said, "the one who comes to Me I
will by no means cast out." (John 6:37).
